Gemma & Matthew // 2nd August 2018
Our real life wedding features #GlamourBride Gemma, who shares her journey to saying ‘I Do’, the day she said ‘Yes To The Dress’, and top tips for other excited brides-to-be.
Q1. When was your big day and what is your husband’s name?
Gemma – I married my husband Matthew on Thursday 2nd August 2018.
Q2. Which venue did you choose and why?
Gemma – We chose to get married at Best Western Garstang Country Hotel and Golf Club. We’d looked at a good few places before that, but this just had all we wanted. Other places were too expensive, didn’t feel quite right or were quite restrictive on what we could or couldn’t do. It was relaxed, friendly and the grounds were beautiful.
Q3 – How long had you been planning your wedding?
Gemma – We got engaged on our anniversary in December 2016. The planning started in January, so it took 18 months.
Q4 – You chose Glamour Bridal to supply your wedding dress. Would you recommend us to other brides and why?
Gemma – Glamour Brides are wonderful! They made me and my girls feel so at ease and made the experience one to remember.
Debbie asked lots of questions to make sure I was looking at the sorts of dresses I was interested in (I’d gone to look at a specific one initially). She actually suggested the dress I ended up purchasing.
Q5 – You wore the ‘Mille’ wedding dress by Sincerity Bridal on your big day. What made it ‘The One’ and was it the style of dress you thought you would choose, or was it totally different?
Gemma – Millie from Sincerity Bridal felt right straight away. It was very similar to the sort of dress I was after. I wanted a corset back with a small train, but not a massive ballgown type. I wanted some detailing but not excessively. I tried the dress without a hoop at first and got all emotional when I saw myself (I’d not done that before). I tried on a few more, but went back to ‘Millie’, this time with a hoop underneath. I was in love!
Q6 – What was your colour scheme?
Gemma – My first purchase for the wedding were the bridesmaids dresses. I went for lavender grey. Depending on the light it looked dark lilac or a bluish hue. It worked well with lots of complementary colours like silver.
Q7 – How many bridesmaids did you have?
Gemma – I had two bridesmaids. My beautiful step sister, Samantha and Matthew’s wonderful sister, Criddy. I love them both so much and knew they would make amazing bridesmaids.
Q8 – What is your favourite image from the day and why?
Gemma – My favourite image of the day was taken after the wedding breakfast. Our photographer, David Barry, took lots more shots of people in the beautiful light at that time of day and then took Matthew and I off to do some together.
This photo of us wasn’t posed. David just wanted us to relax and chat, and this was the result; caught at the right moment.
Q9 – If you could have your day all over again, would you do anything differently?
Gemma – I really wouldn’t do anything differently. It was just as we wanted it to be. I’d do it all again (to Matthew of course) in a heartbeat… maybe minus the planning though!!
Q10 – Your No 1 top tip for other brides to be?
Gemma – Don’t stress over the little details. The day is about marrying the one you love, not worrying about whether the shade of chair ties matches perfectly with something else. People won’t notice…. believe me, I know!
